GLASS BEADMAKING CLASSES

A Little bit of Beadmaking, A Little bit of Metal Work
Duration: 2 Sessions
Prerequisite: None

This class is a little bit of torch work and a little metalsmithing. Week 1 you will learn to create glass disks using the beadmaking torches; whereas, Week 2 you will get these glass wheels spinning on a copper pendant that you create. You will learn to attach, connect, and finish this pendant on a silk cord. These techniques are basic skills that can be used in additional designs.

Glass Beadmaking I
Duration: 3 sessions

Create beads by melting glass rods in a torch flame. Many techniques will be covered in class: shaping beads, creating stringers (thin rods of glass), creating twisties (multiple colors in a stringer form), applying millefiore, etc. It's so much fun it's addicting!

Glass Beadmaking II - Heat and Dot Control
Duration: 2 sessions
Prerequisite: Beadmaking I

This class will focus on heat control and the application of dots. By controlling the heat within the bead, you control everything about the bead. It's all about reading the color of the heat! We will also break apart the techniques of placing dots on the beads: the size of the dot, the placement of the dot, the melting of dots, etc.

Boro Beads - Wavy Design

Working with borosilicate glass is quite different than soft glass, but the nuance of color that boro can bring is addictive. This class will take you through the techniques needed to create a basic boro bead using Momka glass. Class will cover techniques causing the design to wave and develop colors based upon the heat.

One way to make your fusing unique is by creating your own decorative elements. This class will teach you techniques to create straight stringers, curved stringers, petals, leaves, and mixed color elements, etc. This is all done on the torch and can bring a new look to your fusing designs

Fusers - Create your own Confetti at the Torch
Duration: 1 session
Prerequisite: None

Adding confetti always brings interest to your fusing, but imagine if you were able to create your own. This class will teach you the same techniques used in ornament creation, but instead you will break the blown shape to create shards. Just thin, you can use any color of Bullseye glass, or a combination of colors. Since only a few colors are available commercially, your will be unique.

GLASS FUSING CLASSES

Intro to Fusing Jewelry
Duration: 1 session

Want to make one-of-a-kind glass jewelry and learn about glass fusing at the same time? By creating small fused jewelry pieces you will be initiated into the fusing process. We will only touch upon what temperature does to glass, but you will experiment with design and dichroic slides, which give a metallic gloss to glass.

Fusing - Using Stencils in Design

This class is great for a taste for the fusing process. The piece you will create will be one layer of glass with a stenciled design. A nice selection of stencils will be available to create the design from small particles of glass called frit. Many colors are available for your selection.

Want to add new effects to your fusing? Mica is a mineral that is used in many industries and is a great addition to fused projects. You will use it in its powder form mixed with a liquid medium for decorating you fused pieces. Several decorating techniques will be covered in class.

Precious Metal Clay - (PMC) Express
Duration: 2 Sessions
Prerequisite: None

In this class you will gain a quick introduction into using precious metal clay (PMC), which is malleable clay embedded with fine silver. You will create 2-dimensional jewelry using stamps and texture plates to form your pieces. Finishing techniques are covered.

PMC Mesh Pendant Embellished with Pearls

Learn to embed fine silver mesh into PMC to create a stunning pendant. You will also learn to add fine silver findings to your piece. In week two, you will also learn to polish your piece and embellish it with pearls and/or crystals.

Torch Fired PMC
Duration: 1 Session
Prerequisite: PMC Express

Want to fire your PMC at home? Then this class is a must. Use a butane torch to learn to torch fire your metal clay! In this class you will use PMC3 to create a design of your choice, but instead of waiting to have it fired in a kiln, you will fire the piece in class. The weight of the piece determines how long it should be fired. Create a PMC3 piece in class and learn the techniques needed to create a strong sintered piece.

Texured PMC Ring (Band Style)
Duration: 1 Session

Design and create a textured ring, and learn to insert CZ's for sparkle. Metal clay shrinks when fired, so rings can be difficult to size accurately. We will discuss and address this issue.

Enameled PMC Pod Pendant
Duration: 2 Sessions (3hrs and 2hrs)

Learn many techniqueswhile creating this beautiful PMC pendant. In week one, you will learn to shape PMC into a pod form; shaping around/into an object, creating crevices for dimension, and adding elements to the piece for interest. Hammered Silver Bangle with Accent Beads

Basic Wirebending

This class will introduce you to a broad range of wirebending techniques which will take your jewelry designs to new levels. Coloring Copper with Heat and Preserving the Color

The colors created on copper in this class are amazing. The nuances of how heat can be used to develop different colors will be covered. The colors can be so distinct that they can be used to distinguish areas of design. You will also learn techniques to preserve color on copper.

Fused Silver on Copper Bracelet
Duration: 2 Sessions

When combining two different metals it is important to work with their unique melting points. Learn to fuse silver onto copper in this class without destroying either metal. The contrasting of the color of the metals and the patinas created are striking. We supply silver scrap, but if you want more, feel free to bring extra.

Corrugated Metal Pendant & Earring

Using a "tube ringer", begin to learn principles of corrugation as you manipulate thin gauge sheet metal to create unique textures and designs. Using a disc cutter, create finished jewelry pieces from your altered metal. Copper sheet will be used in this class.

Prong Set Stone - Another Technique

This fun class incorporates a little metal work and a little wirebending to set set a bead or cab pendant. This take on bezel setting includes the use of a copper washer and wire. Learn to solder wire to your copper washer and bend the wire to secure the stone and give the piece your own style.

Etching Metal

Using Gilders Paste on Copper & Brass

Gilders paste, a relatively new product on the market, is a great way to add color to metal. In this class you will be given an etched piece of metal as well as other metal pieces to experiment with this product. Many techniques will be taught to add patinas to your metal pieces. Stacked and Soldered Rings

Torch Enameled Beads

Furnace Enameling - Layering Enameled Pieces using Decals and Dichro Slides

BEAD WEAVING CLASSES

Seed Bead Bezel Setting
Duration: 1 Session
Prerequisite: None

This class covers using seed beads to create a bezel around a bead/cab. You will learn how to secure your bead/cab to a micro suede, size your bezel with seed beads, gradually reduce the diameter of your bezel, and create a bail for your piece. Micro suede will be added to finish the back of the piece.

Diagonal Peyote Stitch

Basket Weave Bangle

The class borrows basket weaving techniques in its creation. Using waxed twine and waxed linen learn to shape and weave these materials together to make a bangle. Once the weaving portion is complete, embellishment will be sewn to the bangle.

JEWELRY TECHNIQUES

Use a Soldering Iron to Close Jump Rings and Chain
Duration: 1 session
Prerequisite: none

In this class you will use a low temperature soldering iron and Stay-Brite (a brite silver solder/flux combination, 96% tin and 4% silver) to secure open jump rings and cut chain. You will create a mixed metal multi-textural chain necklace to practice these skills.
